Statement of purpose
Introduction
This document is set out to best describe what is offered from Educla and the provisions available but is not exhaustive.
Educla is a provider of supported living accommodation for care leavers, currently offering placements across Cumbria and the North west area. The founder and director has a vast amount of expertise managing children’s homes and intake and assessment units both in Cumbria and West Midlands.
Statement of purpose
Educla provides 24-hour staffed semi-independent/supported living accommodation and support for care leavers aged between 16 and 18 years. The units are able to accommodate both long and short term placements. The purpose is to offer a safe, structured and caring environment to young people who are in the care of the local authority but whom are preparing for independent living. Educla’s goal is to ensure that the young people placed within our care have the suitable life skills and ability to successfully lead independent and prosperous lives with positive and meaningful relationships following on from leaving care.
We also place a large focus on assisting with education and career guidance to help them to reach their full potential by adopting a holistic approach to successful independence.
Each care package is bespoke, dependent on individual level of needs. The amount of staff support can be reduced over time, where appropriate, when heading towards fully independent stage.
Aims
· To promote the required and suitable independence skills for each individual
· To promote and assist in achieving positive emotional wellbeing for the young people residing with us
· To provide young care leavers with SEBD or associated issues to achieve and become successfully independent
· To strongly promote relevant education, employment or training
· To guide and advise young people as well as equip them with the skills and abilities to achieve positive community integration
Accommodation
We currently have 3 properties in Cumbria and each unit is either a 2 or 3 bedroomed house within easy reach of colleges or work places and on a main bus route that houses only one young person and one member of staff, on a regular shift pattern to allow as much consistency as possible.
Each property is fully furnished and can be adapted to suit.
“Educla is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and well-being of its pupils, engages with young people and staff in Policy and practice developments, proactively encourages feedback and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment”.
